About Ray Agro

Ray Agro & Petroleum Ltd. has been family owned and operated for over 25 years.  Its head office is located in Stony Plain with another retail office in Leduc, Alberta.  The company was founded by Herb Hennig, who incorporated Herb Hennig Petroleum Ltd. in 1957.  Herb began by supplying fertilizer, bulk fuel, and lubricants to the farming community surrounding Stony Plain.  Since its inception, the company has gone on to span three generations of family ownership.

In 1988, Herb retired and turned the company over to his step-sons who had worked for Herb for over 10 years.  They formed Ray Brother’s Petroleum Ltd. and in 1995, the name was changed to Ray Agro & Petroleum Ltd. and Herb’s step-son Elmer Ray took over as sole owner.  In 1998 the company expanded its operations into the Leduc market and in 2002, expanded further into the Barrhead market. In 2003, Elmer’s brother Cameron Ray joined the company as Operations Manager of the Barrhead site and continues to manage the site today under new ownership.  In 2007, after working for the company for a number of years, Elmer’s children Jamie, Matt, and Adam began managing operations.  Elmer’s daughter Jamie Popowich works as the company’s Controller, his son Matt Ray as the General Manager and his youngest son Adam Ray is the Operations Manager for the Leduc site and Manager of the Lubricants Division.

The company’s core operations remain the same from when it was founded by patriarch Herb Hennig.  Ray Agro continues to supply fertilizer, bulk fuel, and lubricants, but product lines have expanded to include seed, crop protection products, filters, rentals, a cardlock as well as a host of services such as custom application, crop spraying, grain hauling, and custom fertilizer blending.

As Ray Agro evolves and transitions to the next generation, the company remains focused on providing superior customer service.  We continue to look for opportunities to bring value to our customers and to advance and assist them in their operations. We remain committed to our customers and to the family farm.
